About Me

Engineering Leader, Architect, and Problem Solver.

Bio

I am Nicklas K. Frank, an engineering leader with 15+ years of building things on the web. I started in online communities (one grew to about a million monthly active users) and went on to build e-commerce and media systems for some of Denmark's largest brands. Right now I'm Chief Lead Engineer at Rekom Group, where we're building a guest-experience platform for 100+ venues.

My career has moved from developer to architect to product engineering leader, through Hobbii, Aller Media, Bonnier Publications, and Mybanker. What I keep noticing is that technical excellence only matters when it connects to real impact.

Experience

Chief Lead Engineer

Rekom Group A/S2026 – Present

Building a hospitality platform that connects ticketing, reservations, and loyalty through a single guest profile. It starts with Rekom's 100+ venues and is designed to grow into industry infrastructure.

Lead Backend Developer → Lead Software Architect → Engineering Manager

Hobbii2022 – 2026

Stabilized an unreliable backend within six months and rolled out a repeatable development process across a 28-developer team. As Lead Software Architect, broke a large monolith into domain-driven services. That foundation made a one-go Shopify migration possible, something previously considered impossible. Finished as Engineering Manager leading the Crafter & Designer product team.

Web Developer

Mybanker2020 – 2022

Developed and maintained a financial services platform with Laravel. Integrated external banking APIs and optimized MySQL performance, improving the speed and reliability of customer-facing features.

Senior Web Developer

Aller Media2018 – 2020

Maintained 10+ brand sites (Se og Hør, Femina, Billedbladet) while migrating them from Drupal to Laravel-based services. Cut Se og Hør load times from 15 seconds to 2 by re-architecting content and ad handling, and built editor-facing CMS tools used across multiple brands.

Web Developer → Senior Web Developer

Bonnier Publications2015 – 2018

Built a service-oriented Laravel architecture used across hundreds of applications, plus a publishing system that let editors reuse content across brands and countries. Led large-scale site migrations (National Geographic, Bo Bedre, Gør Det Selv) and cut migration time from 8 months to 12 weeks for sites with hundreds of thousands of articles, without losing SEO.
